The Need for Technology: A Necessary Evil

As far as users are concerned, a plethora of businesses use the internet, and everyone’s need for technology to grow their products and scale their businesses. There’s no denying that technological advancements are on the top of every modernized business’ list of priorities. And as the years go by, idea men and idea women are finding ways to materialize their solutions to solve old-age problems. However, some traditional businesses may oppose that technology will improve their business models. But who can blame them? After years of beating competition left and right, changing business models or renewing strategies is best met with caution. Plus, technology has its disadvantages. As we move forward with technological advancements, we lose sight of our roots and old-age methods. However, technology has helped us progress in ways we never would’ve imagined. Neither you nor I nor anyone can argue with that. But, why is technology a necessary evil?
What is Good? What is Bad?
Every decision we make involves subconscious judgments of weighing in the good and beneficial versus the bad and disadvantageous. However, there is a very thin line between these two choices. Within every decision-making process, both the good and bad sides are present. Now that technology is present in every home, we’ve accepted it as the norm. But things weren’t always like that. Technology and innovations weren’t always welcomed by businesses or individuals. The reason for this is the fact that innovation means new. And new doesn’t always mean better. However, with constant and progressive advancements in technology, we’ve gotten past the point of rejecting anything that we’re not used to. In fact, these days, whenever we see new technology being served by all forms of media, we’re quick to jump on board; thinking this tech is going to make life so much easier.
And that’s always been the number one reason behind the need for technology and why it’s a necessary evil. While it pushes us away from our roots, it makes us more efficient, productive and presents us with more convenience.
Deducting that Personal Touch
Automation, without a doubt, helps businesses reach new heights. A couple of years ago, automation was new and used mostly by startups who aren’t afraid to shift business models and disrupt the competition. Presently, more and more businesses are looking for ways to automate their processes and remove that personal human touch, reducing human errors. Even giant corporations are looking for ways to collaborate with startups who can solve traditional problems from traditional business models.
Modernization can be seen in every industry. Even within the insurance sector, the least technologically growing industry is welcoming fintechs and insurtechs for corporate innovation. Occasionally, we’re going to miss personal touches that we used to leave on traditional activities; take mailing for example. Handwritten letters will always seem more personal than emails, but emails get the job done with less effort and faster delivery time.
World’s Knowledge at the Palm of Our Hands
The internet is a vast library of materials, files, and infographics that we can use to expand our knowledge of certain things. With search engines, such as Google, getting close to perfection with its analytics technology, learning is no longer as difficult as it used to be. While teaching yourself can’t always be a better option than learning in a dedicated classroom, technology has given us the advantage of at least trying to. Serve it with the right keywords, and within 0.3 seconds you’ll have exactly what you’re looking for. Or at least what search engine algorithms think you’re looking for.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with accessible learning materials. In fact, it’s one of the most treasured benefits that technology brought upon its conceptualization. However, this technological advancement will depend on how much a user is willing to learn. You can’t just browse for articles or materials for one whole day and claim you’re an expert at something. Therefore, education within a physical or online classroom still trumps the self-proclaimed expert. Technology is our best bet to progress humanity to incredibly new heights. If we use it well, especially in an educational setting, we can create waves that will impact the generations to come.
While the need for technology can be considered as a necessary evil, take note that anything around us can be both beneficial and disadvantageous at the same time. It highly depends on how you use it. So, if you’re still hesitant about how you can adapt technological advancements for the personal or business aspects of your life, find out why you’re in doubt and look around for some answers that might comfort your hesitation. And keep in mind that innovations are built for us to progress towards bigger and better causes. If it doesn’t improve human life, then it’s not innovative nor is it a tech worth investing on.
