New Year’s Resolution: No more wasted time at work

There is a reason why many parts of the world are beginning to adopt a four-hour work day for corporations - people get bored very quickly and end up focusing on tasks and things which don’t have much importance to the company and end up wasting corporate time. Not only is the organization’s time wasted but so is that of the people who are done their work after just a few hours.
In a need to just fulfill the hours of the work day, people can use that time on casual conversation or hanging around the lunch room or watercooler. It’s hard to blame them too. Being stuck in a small office or cubicle for hours on end is seriously depressing. Humans are not made to be stuck in a small four-walled space for such a long time. This makes them easily distracted and focused on things which can be regarded as non-productive.
But before we all start working for only four hours a day, there is a need to figure out some ways how time wasted at work can be minimized.
Keep Those Meetings at Bay
Meetings are regarded to be one of the major time wasters during an office day. Some of us have to work more than others depending on our roles and business season requirements and those meetings can really kill the flow. Once that flow is disturbed, it can end up messing up with the whole work day which remains.
One of the more productive ways to stay working is to avoid as many unnecessary meetings as possible. Try to convince your boss that you may be more better sitting out of a meeting which may not regard you as much as another upcoming one. Schedule out your day and avoid meetings which don’t have any things of major impact happening.
Forget About Social Media
If you see the hours fly by and end up not getting much done, you could be a victim of social media addiction. Once you get swiping or clicking through your feed, hours could easily go by before you realize just how much time you have wasted on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. YouTube or any other video streaming service is even worse.
This is why some offices choose to ban social media altogether, but not all of them do. They give employees the freedom to choose and dictate how they spend their time. Choosing to stay focused on social media all day could end up not only hurting your work, but also your performance in the long run.
We all use social media, but keep it at a balance and don’t let it take your time over completely.
Keep Long Conversations for Out of the Office
There is usually that one person in the office who ends up talking infinitely without getting to the point. It can be hard on you, especially if you have to regularly communicate with them to get some work done, but realize it is almost time to go when the task is finally done.
Instead of heading over to their office or cubicle, stick to instant messaging or email. If you genuinely enjoy talking to them, try to keep it for out of the office so that your work doesn’t suffer.
