As a business owner, you will no doubt have heard about how important SEO is for your online presence. You may well have a strategy but how do you know if this strategy is actually working? By measuring your SEO results. It’s a highly recommended practice as it will allow you to monitor what is working, what needs tweaking and what is not providing any results.

There are several ways for companies to measure the results and use certain metrics to monitor progress. Before checking for results however, you need to know what you are looking for. What did statistics show before the SEO strategy was implemented and what results were you expecting?

Here are some key metrics to show how well your SEO strategy is performing:

1. Organic Traffic.

Is website traffic improving or is the chart showing a downward trend? This is probably the number one statistic for seeing how a website is performing overall and how optimized it is for search engines. Paid traffic is a given. Organic traffic has to be earned and the only way to do that is through a successful SEO strategy.

2. Keyword Ranking.

Every SEO strategy will consist of keywords to increase visibility and traffic. The better a company ranks for those keywords, the better the SEO strategy will be performing. There are several tools which can be used to determine which keywords the website is ranking highly for. If you are not ranking highly for the ones in your strategy, you will need to readjust your content.

3. Conversions & Improved Business.

When done right, SEO strategies should tie in directly with increased business and revenue. The ultimate goal of all business efforts is to increase sales. An SEO strategy should be doing the same, except it will be exclusively for the online world. Measuring new sales and revenue by setting up specific online campaigns that tie in with new SEO strategies will show the results almost immediately. Companies usually do this by running special offers and deals that are only online to see how a strategy is performing.

As with any other business aspect, SEO does take time and a considerable amount of effort to get the results on the charts. With enough planning, execution and patience, a good SEO strategy will certainly show results.
